Painted Pieces
is our repertoire – an ever growing series of unique garments.

Every Painted Series garment has its own soul and a unique story to tell. We love to let the garment speak and guide you through its history.

TULLE JACKET

—Touched by the beauty of cord embroidery, both embellishing and finishing a garment, Painted Series made me from the wish to make a merely ephemeral jacket enframed by braided woolen cord from Bulgaria

DRIFTWOOD DRESSES

        — We were made for the exhibition ‘Gone with the Wind’ at Zuiderzee Museum, Enkhuizen.

Ripened over time and allowing coincidence in the making process we came into being like driftwood. The inspiration for our creation came from the old boats in the Zuiderzeemuseum that were laying on the shore.

We came into being like driftwood,

being washed up on the line

where land and the sea meet

We have been passed on during the making process --

growing garments in togetherness,

that could never have been

designed by a single person

—As a garment with a soul, I grew out of dedication and adventure.
There was no plan for me in advance.

FEATHER TOP

—I started with a long volant (‘long frill piece of fabric’) given by Saskia van Drimmelen (Amsterdam) as an invitation to Rumjana Rakovska (Sofia) for her improvisation in needlepoint lace. I grew further out of this treasure through the hands of Margreet Sweerts and Désirée Hammen, passing me on to each other, adding new layers, leaving me for a while and allowing me to ripen, finally becoming one of the unique pieces of Painted Series.

Painted the Party / Arnhem Mode Biennale, 2009

For this occasion Painted Series made garments for each other,
to be worn at a party;
an exploration on how to make clothing
in interaction with the future wearer

Interviewing the other,
standing by her/his own wardrobe
asking:

Who would you like to look like for a day?

‘Where, from which part of your body, would you like a garment to start?’

‘What is your favorite piece of clothing and why?’

‘For which occasion in your life would you have special garments made?’
