Golden Joinery ; What's new?
Birds of a feather flock together
Often, we try to repair broken things in a manner to hide the repair and make it “good as new.”
An alternative “broken is better than new” aesthetic — that a beautiful, imaginitive repair actually adds value — has symbolic appeal to fashion collective Painted, aiming at a more hands-on, repair-friendly culture.
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in ( Quoted from Leonard Cohen: Anthem )
From the love of imperfect beauty we will repair our own and each others beloved yet damaged or stained garments with a beautiful 'golden' scar; A new brand will slowly arise.
Bring a broken garment you treasure and the willingness to work with needle and thread. We bring materials and techniques. Together we will repair with ‘gold’.Our wish to take care of the dear broken is kindred to the old Japanese Kintsugi technique.

Painted is a hybrid fashion collective, led by fashion designer Saskia van Drimmelen and theatre director Margreet Sweerts collaborating in a varying line-up with kindred spirits.
In their most recent work they connect the handmade with the industrially manufactured, as seen in the current exhibition Hand Made in museum Boymans van Beuningen

Painted necklaces in collection of Museum De Paviljoens, Almere
We are pleased to tell you that Museum De Paviljoens Almere,
The Netherlands has purchased work of Painted, which arose from our performance/ salon ‘Painted Glasshouse’ at De Paviljoens in 2008.
‘Painted colliers’ consists of three colliers that can also be seen separately.
The colliers were developed in collaboration with Magdalina Toneva and Rumjana Rakovska, Bulgarian masters in needlepoint lace, an almost forgotten craft that was valued highly in antique folklore garments.
By adopting this beautiful craft in contemporary couture, Painted makes it breathe new life, both in the jewelry and clothing we make.
These and other pieces can also be seen on this website under Painted Series no. 47-54, ( prices range from 150-350€ ) and be ordered by contacting us via info@paintedseries.com

We are thrilled to tell you that Painted has been invited by
the Smithsonian Cooper Hewitt Design Museum in New York to
participate in the exhibition "Why design now?"
At this moment some of the first pieces of our growing
Painted Series repertoire are shown in this Design Triennial.
In a small still life, Painted created a scene of intimacy,
suggesting the presence of a person.
We were pleased to collaborate for this installation with
Nightwood (New York) and Freudenthal/Verhagen (Amsterdam).
The exhibition is on view through Januari 9th, 2011 and
will travel around the world afterwards.
